Developer Cala Homes has failed to overturn a planning statement sent by communities secretary Eric Pickles to local authorities, requiring them to take into account the government's commitment to abolish the regional planning strategies.
Planning lawyers have dampened the initial enthusiasm that followed the ruling in the case brought by developer Cala Homes against local government minister Eric Pickles over the scrapping of regional housing targets, saying it may only have a limited effect on applications currently in the pipeline.
The local government secretary's decision to do away with regional housing targets before any legislation to this effect has been adopted was unlawful, the High Court has ruled in a decision set to unblock planning applications stalled since the coalition has come to power.
The Institute of Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Institute, was not vicariously liable for the abuse of boys at a school in Yorkshire, appeal judges have ruled.
