**SRA commences search for new Chair**

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has started its process to find a new Board Chair following Anna Bradley's departure
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has officially announced the commencement of the process to appoint a new Board Chair, with this phase beginning on Monday 1 June. Anna Bradley, who has led the Board since January 2019, has decided to step down after an impressive eight-year tenure. Her leadership was especially critical in the wake of the Axiom Ince collapse, ensuring continuity as the SRA embraced essential changes aimed at positioning the organisation for future success.
Throughout her time, Anna Bradley has overseen substantial alterations within the organisation, including the introduction of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, which has improved access to the profession. Furthermore, she guided the SRA’s shift from a rules-based to a principles-based regulatory framework and strengthened governance structures, such as the establishment of the Audit and Risk Committee. Anna emphasised the significance of adapting to the legal sector's evolving demands, stating: ‘During my tenure, I have seen very significant change in the legal sector and in the resultant demands placed on the SRA. A central theme has been the need for us to focus more on firms and the way they operate in a rapidly changing legal sector to ensure that we protect consumers.’
She acknowledged past challenges, expressing regret about the impact of some decisions on consumers and the profession, saying: ‘Sometimes, we have not kept pace with the market and mistakes have been made. I am sorry these issues have had such an impact on consumers and the profession.’ The focus now is on creating momentum for necessary changes while setting the groundwork for her successor.
As the new Chief Executive, Sarah Rapson, marks six months in her role, she and the executive team are prioritising operational excellence, proactive risk identification, addressing major issues, and fostering collaboration. This hiring process is expected to conclude by autumn, with the new Chair stepping in on 1 January 2027 to lead the development of a new three-year corporate strategy, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to improving outcomes for both consumers and the professional community.
