PROBATE DELAYS

New software designed to speed up grants of probate has dramatically slowed down the process, it is claimed, with grants taking up to 12 weeks when previously they would come through in 10 days. At a meeting between the Law Society and HM Courts and Tribunal Service, it was acknowledged that there were 'wider, unexpected, technical issues' that took the system off line for four days. HMCTS have apologised to solicitors and applicants for the delays and have stated they will bring more firms in to test the new system.
