PRISON VISITS
By Nicola Laver
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is facing legal action from parents over the halting of prison visits due to restrictions Appeals refused on both sides of age discrimination case imposed in March. McMillan Williams says it fails to properly safeguard the children's best interests under the Children Act 2004 and is seeking a mandatory order requiring the MoJ to promote contact between family members; and a declaration that the children's article 8 human rights have been breached as they cannot visit imprisoned parents or have other meaningful contact. They are also seeking damages. 31 August 2020
