NI's Department for Justice is expected to change the personal injury discount rate for the region to -1.75 per cent from 31 May

Northern Ireland’s Department for Justice is expected to change the personal injury discount rate for the region to -1.75 per cent from 31 May. The current discount rate is 2.5%. In England and Wales, the rate is -0.25 per cent. The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers’ (APIL) NI representative Oonagh McClure said: “t will be a relief to people waiting to settle their personal injury claims after Northern Ireland has lagged behind the rest of the UK with an inappropriately high discount rate for many years.”
