NO-FAULT DIVORCE
By Nicola Laver, Nicola Laver and Jean-Yves Gilg
The government's decision scrap the need for divorcing couples to apportion blame as part of the process was met with near-universal approval from the profession this month. Law Society president Christina Blacklaws dubbed the reform 'long overdue' and said it finally brought the law 'into the 21st century'. Blacklaws supported Justice Secretary David Gauke's view that the old system 'increases conflict between divorcing couples'. '[It] exacerbates tensions between separating couples' and 'for separating parents, it can be much more difficult to focus on the needs of their children', she said. 9 April 2019
