Journalists allowed to report on certain family court proceedings for the first time

As of 30 January 2023, journalists will be allowed to report on family court proceedings for the first time as part of a new pilot to improve transparency and accountability. The Transparency Reporting Pilot, which will be conducted at three UK courts, follows Sir Andrew McFarlane’s 2022 review of transparency in the family court. The pilot will initially allow reporting on court applications and placement applications made within court proceedings. After six to eight weeks, private law children’s cases may also be reported on.
