Society president says legal advice more effective than banning non-competes
The Law Society has called for legal aid to be made available to low-paid workers so they can challenge non-compete and exclusivity clauses. The government consulted on whether to ban exclusivity clauses in contracts where the worker’s weekly income is less than £120. However, Society president I. Stephanie Boyce said these clauses are not widely used in lower paid jobs: “The simplest way to minimise issues… would be for employees to get independent legal advice, when they are required to agree to a non-compete.”
