Fieldfisher partnered with London charity Just for Kids Law is to offer families free advice for challenges to unfair school exclusions in Birmingham and Manchester. The help is available through new legal clinics which have been set up by the charity outside London for the first time. According to the Department for Education, there has recently been a marked increase in the numbers of school exclusions linked to social trends including knife crime. 4 November HUMAN RIGHTS The courts can disapply subordinate legislation if it breaches human rights law, the Supreme Court ruled. In RR v Secretary of State for Work and Pensions [2019] UKSC 52 the court found 'nothing unconstitutional about a public authority, court or tribunal disapplying a provision of subordinate legislation' which would otherwise mean they act incompatibly with human rights under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) where necessary to comply with the Human Rights Act. 13 November
