JUDICIAL SHAMPOO
By Nicola Laver
93 senior judges made 2,467 approved claims for expenses last year after payments had been made for crockery and a taxi journey to transport ceremonial robes. The crockery was acquired so that the judge could give tea and coffee when hosting meetings. One judge claimed £5 for shampoo. A spokesman for the judiciary said it was not unreasonable for anybody who was working away from home for a long period to spend a small amount on toiletries. The Ministry of Justice is finalising a new expenses policy for senior judges. 18 May 2019
