JUDICIAL BONUS

By

Senior judges are in line for a £95,000 emergency bonus to combat the recruitment crisis among the judiciary. The bonus represents a two-year annual uplift on top of the £188,901 annual salary and is backdated to April. Circuit and tribunal judges will receive 15 per cent rises. More than 10 per cent of 108 High Court judicial positions are vacant, with the Chancery Division 20 per cent below the required numbers (and anticipated to increase to 40 per cent by the end of the year unless urgent action is taken). Justice secretary David Gauke said he hopes the changes will 'prevent delays to potentially lifechanging decisions.' 6 June 2019
