Babita Attra and her boyfriend Alexandru Major are facing jail for defrauding the taxpayer out of £63,000 by inflating their fee for translation of legal aid documents. The pair won a lucrative contract as translators for the Legal Aid Agency (LAA). They have been convicted of conspiracy to defraud and will return to court for sentencing on 13 March. Attra received bail in order to care for her child, while major was remanded in custody. Attra can currently only at a law firm with the Solicitors Regulation Authority's permission. 28 January
