An experienced litigator was struck off and ordered to pay £9,000 in costs for forging a client's signature to beat court deadlines. Alistair Gilfillan, then a personal injury solicitor at OCL Solicitors in Doncaster, forged the signature without the client's knowledge on a list of documents for standard disclosure and the statement of truth. The SDT accepted he was trying to move the case forward while under pressure but he had not been transparent. A dishonesty allegation against Gilfillan was proven. 14 August 2020
