Fifty-year anniversary

January marked the fifty-year anniversary of the first female judge to sit in the Old Bailey
4 January 2022 marked the fifty-year anniversary of Rose Heilbron QC becoming the first female judge to sit at the Old Bailey. Heilbron was also the first woman to receive a first-class law degree from Liverpool University, the first woman to win a scholarship to Gray’s Inn and to later become treasurer, one of the first two women to be appointed King’s Counsel in England, the first woman to lead in a murder case, the first woman appointed a recorder, and the second female High Court judge.
