Helping others can give your life meaning beyond any other achievements, suggests Manju Manglani

“To whoever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked” (Luke 12:48). This Biblical quote was paraphrased by the fictional Peter Parker’s uncle in the film Spiderman. “With great power comes great responsibility,” he noted shortly before he died as a direct result of Parker failing to act for good.

Regardless of whether you are a Christian or a Spiderman fan, there is a compelling need to seek guidance and support when taking on a leadership role. Being in a position of authority comes with the responsibility for managing and dealing with people. However, this is often not given full consideration when taking on senior positions for the first time.

It is important for experienced leaders to pass on their wisdom to people within and outside of their firms. This is not just about leaving a legacy, although that is certainly an outcome; it’s about doing good.

This month, we look at how managing partners can make the most of their positions, not just by advancing their firms, but also by mentoring and supporting each other.

Helping others is what can give your life value and meaning, often more than any other achievement. Although you may not be a superhero, you will be long remembered by those who have benefited from the good usage of your special powers.

Until next month,
