David Hodson warns against Henry VIII-type divorce powers

Plans to introduce the no-fault divorce bill may be frustrated by differences of opinion among experts. Having reached the committee stage this week, one member of the Law Society’s family law committee David Hodson expressed concern over the structure of the bill.

While, former chair of family law group Resolution Nigel Shepherd said he feels the bill is good as it is. Hodson said: “I agree with Nigel that we don’t want to clog [the bill] up, but there are some crucial elements here that should be brought into this legislation rather than, dare I say, Henry VIII-type powers.”
