Criminalising trespass

By

A new criminal offence of intentional residence on land without consent (trespassing) has been announced. Under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, police will be given powers to seize vehicles and arrest trespassers who refuse to move from private land when requested. Travellers setting up unauthorised camps could face up to three months in prison and fines of up to £2,500. Government said it wants to tackle unauthorised encampments where trespassers cause distress and misery to local communities and businesses.
