Criminal legal aid work is no longer a sustainable career path for legal executives, CILEX said
Criminal legal aid work is no longer a sustainable career path for legal executives, the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) warned. Responding to the Ministry of Justice’s (MoJ) consultation on criminal legal aid, it said a failure to address the resource crisis “threatens the stability of the entire system” at the cost of justice to the consumer. It also said a “disjointed approach” to addressing deficiencies has failed to deliver “fair pay for work done” at all stages of the criminal law process.
