Courts backlog

November 2021 figures have confirmed backlogs remain

The latest available HMCTS figures for November 2021 have revealed backlogs remain in the courts, with 58,728 cases outstanding in the Crown Court and 372,654 cases in the magistrates’ courts. Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce commented: “We don’t yet know what the impact of the spread of the omicron variant and the Christmas period will have had on the figures for December. But what we do know as we begin 2022 is that long delays in trials coming to court remain”.
