A new law firm with a focus on M&A and finance has been launched in Sweden.

Three of the four founding partners of Baumgarten Byström Rooth & Tallavaara began their careers as associates at Vinge in Stockholm.

Fredrik von Baumgarten, Jan Byström, Mats Rooth and Tuula Byström said they expect their new Stockholm firm to increase in size to "around 25 lawyers within one to two years".

"We no doubt have high ambitions and, with a founding team of this calibre, there is no reason why we shouldn’t aim to be the best and most respected transactional firm in the region," said von Baumgarten.

Von Baumgarten, Byström and Byström are corporate M&A lawyers, while Rooth specialises in finance and restructurings.

"Our firm will be focused on transactions, which means we will work and advise solely within our core competences," said Talllavaara.

After starting their careers at Vinge as associates, von Baumgarten later went on serve as managing partner of both Vinge and Hannes Snellman; Rooth subsequently became a partner at Ashurst and in-house legal counsel at SEB Merchant Banking in Stockholm; and Tallavaara joined White & Case in Stockholm as an associate.

Byström was previously an associate at both Davis Polk and Hunton and Williams in New York, and later went on to become a partner at Vinge and Ashurst in Stockholm.

"To have the opportunity to be around at the start and together with colleagues I know and respect build a firm’s culture and professionalism is really what drives and inspires me, and this will be a great and fun journey," said Byström.
