Simmons & Simmons is expanding its presence in Asia with the opening of an office in Singapore.

Located in the Marina Bay Financial Centre, the office will be shared with the international law firm’s Japan alliance firm TMI Associates. The two firms have said they will collaborate on marketing activity and servicing both firms’ Japanese clients in the region.

The Singapore office will be Simmons & Simmons’ fifth in the region, alongside its Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo offices.

‘‘We are expanding our Asia practice in response to the demands of both our international clients and Asia domiciled clients across the region, and in particular, their requirements around the increasing levels of intra-regional investment and trade activity,” said managing partner Jeremy Hoyland.

“Our focus will be on the cross-border transactional and disputes needs of clients in the asset management, energy and infrastructure, financial institutions, life sciences  and TMT sectors,’’ he added.

Four partners and a team of associates will join the Singapore office. Dan Marjanovic joins from Norton Rose in Sydney, while Alexander Shepherd, Jason Valoti and Peter Wright are relocating from Simmons & Simmons’ Dubai, Hong Kong and London offices, respectively.

Simmons & Simmons has noted that its use of the word ‘partner’ refers to “a member of Simmons & Simmons LLP or an employee or consultant with equivalent standing and qualifications or to an individual with equivalent status in one of Simmons & Simmons LLP’s affiliated practices”.

The announcement comes during a period of expansion for the firm and follows its recent office openings in Munich in March 2013 and Bristol in October 2012.
