The UK Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) has today launched a new online title search tool for legal information professionals.

The tool enables users to quickly determine whether they can photocopy, scan or digitally reproduce content from a copyrighted publication under their firm’s CLA licence.

The CLA licenses organisations to copy and reuse extracts from print and digital publications on behalf of copyright owners. This includes 98 per cent of the top 100 UK law firms, according to 2011 CLA data.

The tool’s title search allows licensees to confirm if activities such as photocopying and circulating an article to partners or emailing press cuttings to senior management are compliant with the terms of their CLA licence.

Users can select their licence type and the type of activity they wish to perform before searching by title or ISBN/ISSN to obtain a list of permissions.
