Felix: you are what you wear

Back to school for those with children means considerable pressure is placed on the plastic just at the end of the holidays. Off you go to the shoe shop, the pencil case shop, the school uniform shop to stock up on black shoes and shiny pencils and uncracked protractors and gleaming compasses and grey socks. And off they all go, disappearing into a homogenous whirl in the playground, all with the same kit and the same clothes.

And we grown-ups think that it’s only the kids who wear uniforms. Well, take a really good look in the mirror sometime soon as you dress for work, and then have a good look around when you get to the office. If you do that you will see that yes, we are all wearing the same clothes! A chippy friend of mine once was having a go at lawyers (just for a change) many years ago, and in among her invective was the grumpy observation that “you can always tell the girl lawyers on the tube by the way they dress”.
