Last week I attended what has now become an annual client event – a charity track day. I am not really a ‘petrol head’ in the true sense of the word and I normally plead travel sickness and stand on the sidelines, but this year I decided to take a lovely little Lotus Elise out for a spin. I should say, straight away, that despite some pretty good efforts on the corners, we did not in fact spin and actually I think I quite impressed the professional driver who accompanied me. (You don’t honestly think they will let you out there in how ever many thousands of pounds worth of car it is without having someone sitting next to you telling you how not to wreck the gearbox, do you?) I note that my barrister friend did not offer to let me go out in his banana yellow Porsche – mind you, having used the travel sickness excuse for the last two years, who can blame him?
