Bird's eye view: spend spend spend

It is human nature, I believe, to spend more than you have, at least that has always been my experience, save for the odd person I have encountered who has squirreled away every spare penny for a rainy day.

I have also always been given to understand that if you want to make really serious money, then with the exception of the occasional barrister, the professions are not the place to be. We regularly read stories of businessmen earning vast figures and the bonuses awarded to traders each year make your eyes water. I read with some amazement, therefore, about the law firm up in Newcastle where the managing partner was taking home about £850,000 a year. Believe me, and I should know as I’m from up there, I cannot being to imagine how anyone could spend that much in Newcastle.
