revised texts that are available from the National Archives, it should be noted that those revisions may not,
of course, be the most recent revisions. Nevertheless, this app can serve as a useful aide-memoire for
lawyers and allows users to browse legislation by year and title or search for specific legislation by title.
Once identified, legislation can then be bookmarked, emailed to colleagues or printed out. A seven-day

Thomson Reuters’publications. Aside from the basic functionality of being able to download titles to your
tablet so that you have access evenwithout an internet connection, the software also allows you to highlight
text, annotate important passages with your own comments and add bookmarks. One particularly clever
piece of design is that all your highlights, annotations and notes are automatically transferred across to
updated editions of any particular title.You can also search the eBooks and link directly from the contents or

d2u Transcriber allows users to create, edit and complete a digital recording using their mobile
device. Once you’re happy with your recording, the digital sound file can be sent to a ‘virtual secretary’
who will transcribe your recording and email it to you inWord format. The cost is £1.55 per minute of
audio. Transcribed documents for recordings under five minutes should be returned within an hour,
with longer ones taking up to 24 hours.

The BigHand app essentially enhances smartphones with digital dictation functionality. It allows
you to record a voice file using your mobile’s microphone. This file can then be transcribed by a secretary
or using speech recognition software. If you regularly have multiple dictation jobs on the go at the same
time, the app doubles up as a workflowmanagement solution, allowing you to view the progress of the
various dictation jobs. The BigHand software even sends you email notifications, together with attached
transcriptions of any completed work.
