Mr Justice Gross appointed as judge in charge

18 August 2009

Mr Justice Gross has been appointed judge in charge of the Commercial Court from 1 October 2009 by the Lord Chief Justice. He succeeds Mr Justice Andrew Smith.

The role of judge in charge involves overall responsibility for the list and the judges authorised to sit in the Commercial Court, including assigning those judges to cases.

Peter Gross was called to the Bar in 1977 and became a QC in 1992. He was chairman of the Bar education and training committee between 1998 and 2000 and appointed to the High Court in 2001.

The Charity Commission has appointed Christopher Daws as the independent member of its Audit Committee.

Dawes has worked in both finance and business and is currently a trustee of Action for Children and a member of the Board for Actuarial Standards.

Sharmila Nebhrajani, chair of the commission’s Audit Committee, was pleased with the decision. “His skills will complement those of the present Audit Committee members and he will bring both a strategic and a technical perspective that will prove particularly useful,” she said.
