Sara Maccallum has been elected senior partner of Boodle Hatfield, succeeding Richard Maughan.

The head of the UK law firm's private client and tax team will take up the role in May 2015 following Maughan's retirement from the 292-year-old firm.

Formerly head of property, Maughan served as managing partner of Boodle Hatfield between 2004 and 2011 before being elected senior partner in 2011.

Maccallum will join a small group of female senior partners at UK law firms, including family lawyer Jane Keir at Kingsley Napley, and energy lawyer Penelope Warne at CMS.

"Sara has been a great success as head of our private client and tax team, which has performed very strongly under her leadership over the last few years," said Maughan.

"In Sara we are extremely fortunate to have someone who has all the qualities and experience necessary to enable her to lead the firm."

Commented Maccallum on Maughan's departure: "He has steered the firm extremely well and will leave it in excellent shape. Whilst his are big shoes to fill, I am looking forward to working with our fantastic team of people to take the firm forward."
