The partnership of international law firm King & Spalding has re-elected Robert D Hays, Jr as chair for a fourth term. His new three-year term begins on 1 January 2015.

Hays' role includes overseeing the strategic growth and direction of the firm and building strong relationships with the firm's clients.

Under his leadership, the firm has said it initiated a strategic review which resulted in a materially strengthened brand, a climb to 22nd place in US law firm profitability rankings, and the opening of 12 new offices around the world. The firm currently has 17 offices across the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

"Key to the firm's recent success has been the commitment of the partners, associates and other professionals to serve the long-term best interests of our clients and the firm," said Hays.

Hays has held a variety of leadership positions within the firm, including 15 years as a member of the firm's governing policy committee, which he now also chairs.

The trial lawyer also spent 12 years as head of the firm's tort and environmental practice group.

Hays is a summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he was a Morehead Scholar. He obtained his law degree at Vanderbilt University Law School, at which he was a Patrick Wilson Scholar.
