Daniel Gutmann to replace 22-year veteran Jean-Yves Mercier

CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre has appointed a new head of tax intelligence. 

Daniel Gutmann, who was made partner in 2011, takes over from Jean-Yves Mercier, who retires on 30 September after 22 years in the role. 

Gutmann will jointly run the department with VAT specialist Elisabeth Ashworth and major tax disputes adviser Stéphane Austry. 

Holding a PhD in private law, Gutmann is a professor in international tax law at Sorbonne Law School, University of Paris-1. The 44-year-old also teaches courses in English and Italian at the request of foreign universities.

CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre is a member of CMS, an organisation of 10 independent law and tax firms in Europe.
