Chris Engels, founding partner of Belgian law firm Claeys & Engels, has been appointed chairman of Ius Laboris.

Engels plans to drive the alliance of employment law firms’ global branding and broaden its emerging markets presence over the next two years.

Commenting on his election by the alliance’s board, Engels said: “My focus will be on developing our global brand presence and expanding our geographic footprint where our clients are increasingly active and labour law and practice is developing rapidly.”

Engels replaces Franco Toffoletto, a fellow founding member of the alliance and the chairman of Italian law firm Toffoletto De Luca Tamajo.
