Bill Drummond has been unanimously elected as chair of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI).

Drummond will continue to serve as managing partner of top-100 UK law firm Brodies, a role he has held since 1997. He commences his sixth consecutive three-year term in May, following his re-election in November 2012.

Under his leadership, Brodies has become one of the largest firms in Scotland, with around 540 lawyers and support staff working across its offices in Aberdeen, Brussels, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Commenting on his appointment at the SCDI, Drummond said: “I hope that my experience and continuing work at Brodies advising a wide variety of businesses and organisations operating in Scotland, the rest of the UK and internationally will be of value to SCDI and its members.

“The economic climate and current constitutional debate will shape the future of Scotland for decades to come as it will for all our organisations.”

Drummond, who has been an SCDI executive committee member since 2001, first joined its board in 2004.
