The Law Society of England & Wales has appointed Stephen Denyer as its new head of city and international, effective 1 May 2014.

Denyer, who has held management roles at Allen & Overy for more than two decades, is currently the firm’s global markets partner as well as its global representative to regulatory and professional bodies.

Currently based in Frankfurt, Denyer will relocate to London and be based in Chancery Lane, with additional responsibility for the Law Society’s small Brussells office.

“This will be a full time and full on leadership and management role,” Denyer told Managing Partner.

“In this role I will have three main objectives, namely: to lead the development of strong, strategic relationships between the Law Society and city law firms so that they inform the development of, and benefit from, the work of the Society in relation to all aspects of their business;

“To promote the development of London as a global legal hub and to raise awareness of the contribution city law firms make to the legal profession domestically and internationally; and

“To lead the development of the Society's international work and profile to ensure that the value of English law and the work of English solicitors are well understood and widely respected internationally.”

Denyer is the immediate past co-chair and a current member of the advisory board of the IBA Law Firm Management Committee. He is also a senior advisor to the ABA’s International Law Practice Management Forum.

At Allen & Overy, his roles have included serving as international development partner and regional managing partner for Europe.
