The merger of Blake Lapthorn and Morgan Cole becomes effective today under the brand Blake Morgan.

The new firm, which has a strong presence in southern England and Wales, intends to invest further in its London and Thames Valley capabilities.

The new firm's managing partner is Walter Cha, who previously held the role at Blake Lapthorn. The former managing partner of Morgan Cole takes on the position of chief operating officer. The co-chairs are Stephen Murfitt and Bruce Potter, formerly chairs of Blake Lapthorn and Morgan Cole respectively.

"The merger provides a robust and sustainable platform for growth in a fast-changing legal environment," said Cha.

"We will continue to look for investment opportunities especially in London and the Thames Valley so as to enable us to continue to develop a service offering that is relevant to our clients and the sectors that we operate in."

The new top-50 UK law firm has a combined annual turnover of £72m with 120 partners and a total workforce of approximately 900 people.
