Slaughter and May has retained its top position in annual rankings of law firms by their number of corporate clients.

The firm has 116 clients across AIM and FTSE, according to the Corporate Advisers Rankings Guide, up from 112 last year.

Produced by Adviser Rankings, it found that Slaughters also had the most number of clients in the FTSE 100, at 30 (up from 29), as well as in the FTSE 250, with 46 clients (up from 44) in that grouping.

Pinsent Masons came in second overall with 95 clients (up from 93), but ranked joint ninth among the FTSE 100 advisers, with only six clients in that category. The bulk of its clients came from AIM, in which listings it came first with 53 (up from 51).

Linklaters increased its placing to outright second in the FTSE 100 legal adviser rankings with 28 clients (up from 24), while Freshfields dropped to third place with 24 clients (no change).
