It's not easy being green

SJ's John van der Luit-Drummond triest not to get 'smashed' as he interviews one of Twitter's biggest and angriest silks, Barrister Hulk QC

Sir, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk to SJ.

FIRE AWAY, PUNY HUMAN!

The Bar Standards Board has started conducting random spot-checks of CPD record cards. What are your thoughts?

HULK SAY THIS IS MOST APT. TIME-WASTING BEGETS TIME-WASTING. HULK ALSO SAY IF THE BSB SEND HIM YET ANOTHER MEMBERSHIP CARD (EVERY DAMN YEAR) THEY WILL
BE SORRY.

Right, well, advocates will be able to use Wi-Fi across the criminal court system in England and Wales by March 2016. Will this help you?

HULK SAY THE DAILY MAIL WILL NEARLY COMBUST WITH EXCITEMENT WHEN THE FIRST BARRISTER IS STRUCK OFF FOR LOOKING AT PORN. SO IT WILL BE USEFUL TO HULK INSOFAR AS IT WILL CREATE WORK. HULK WILL RELY ON HIS DONGLE,
THANK YOU.

Good to hear, I think. Michael Gove has removed To Kill A Mockingbird from the GCSE English Literature syllabus. How does this make you feel
and why?

HULK HAS LONG DREAMED OF SMASHING GOVE, BUT NO MATTER HOW MANY JUDICIAL REVIEWS HULK SEES HE NEVER GETS SATISFACTION. BUT HEY, THAT’S PUBLIC LAW. IF IT’S NECESSARY FOR THE MOCKINGBIRD TO DIE TO GET RID OF THE MOUSE, SO BE IT.

We reported this week that the government is to introduce legislation designed to protect ‘good Samaritans’ from negligence claims. Will
this work?

HULK LOOKS FORWARD TO WRITING OPINIONS ON THE MEANING OF “GOOD SAMARITAN”.

In other news, judges from three continents have conducted a mock ‘virtual trial’ in an event claimed to demonstrate the benefits of digital courts. Is Hulk excited by this?

HULK SAY THIS IS ABOUT AS USEFUL AS RYLANDS V FLETCHER.

Okay, well what do you think of Google’s new ‘right to be forgotten’ policy? Would Hulk ever want to be forgotten?

SMASH ECJ JURISPRUDENCE! THAT IS ALL.

And what do you think of lawyers using social media?

TIME-WASTERS, EGOISTS AND SELF-PROMOTERS. BUT NO WORSE THAN THAT PLODDER
ON LBC.

But you use… actually never mind. What advice would you give to law students before entering the profession?

FIRST OF ALL, COMMISERATIONS FOR YOUR SUFFERING THUS FAR. IT GETS BETTER. BUT IF YOU’VE BEEN THINKING “I WISH I DID ENGLISH”...YOU KNOW WHAT
TO DO.

We probably shouldn’t go into too much more detail on that. If there was one piece of current legislation you would change what would it be and why?

LASPO. BECAUSE, BY RIGHT, HULK SMASHES MEMBERS OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION, NOT
THE GOVERNMENT.

Who do you enjoy smashing the most: barristers, witnesses, judges... or solicitors?

PUNY SOLICITORS, OBVIOUSLY.

I think we’ll leave it there. Thank you, Hulk.

YOU’RE WELCOME,
PUNY HUMAN. SJ
